Step and Analysis

Hello, i would like to know if there are a relationship between Step and Analysis, specifically if there are a direct correspondence, for example i have 2 step, with diferent conditions, both activated, if i need the result for every one. does the Analysis-1 solve the Step-1, and Analysis-2 will solve the Step-2? if not, is it possible? how can i perform it?

Kind regards
Manuel Fonseca

Analsysis is a whole study - a job submitted from the input file that was prepared according to your setup. Such a file and setup may consist of multiple steps. Then it’s a multistep analysis. There are certain rules about the types of steps that can follow each other.

So in short, Analysis 1 will solve both Step 1 and Step 2. Analysis 2 will solve the same, unless you make some modifications in the FE model tree before submitting it.

Dear Sir,
Good day to you. Regarding this topic I would like to confirm the below snap shot:

I create 5 STEPS, from STEP-1 to STEP-5. Each Step all are equal condition except load applied is different. Each STEP I would like to get the History OUTPUT for Displacement and Reactions. So that each STEP there is setting for History Output.

However the available output is only for one STEP only. Even I click the Increment

Nothing I can find history output for each STEP.?
Thank sir in advance you for your always kind support.

Dear Sir, related to my previous confirmation , under Results tab shown below snap shot, appreciate for your kind input?

Field output (contour plots) is available for those frames (steps and time increments) that you can select from the “Step, Increment” drop-down list in the top toolbar.

History output (tabular data) is available for those frames that you can see in the table when you open a particular output object from the tree.

In your image there is FIeld Output (5) where 5 stand for the number of field outputs: DISP, STRESS, …, PE and not the number of steps.

Dear Sir @FEAnalyst , @Matej , Thank you very much for your kind support, I understood Sir. Also now I think I also figure out that it is better to separate the file per each STEP analysis, this is considering the capacity of my PC. Since there is a chance that one STEP PrePoMax is capable to make an 100 Iteration . In that case it is a huge file even just for one STEP per each file name and much more if I have 5Step in just one (1) filename. After saving one file dedicated for STEP-5 I got 100 Increment

compare to 2 Increment only per each STEP if I will set 5 STEPS in one file name.
Thank you so much Sir, this help a lot for me to understand the extent of the history ouput.

Summary:
For 1 file name having 5 Nos. of STEPS, I have only 2 Increment.
image

For 1 file name dedicated for 1Nos of STEP, I have 100 Increment.

Therefore it is better to separate the file per each STEP because I dont know how much Increment will generate by the SOLVER. If huge like this 5,266,996KB, then safe approach is 1 file name each step. Due to PC processing capacity.

Many Thaks again Sir for your kind support.

If you can’t reduce the number of increments (because it usually depends on convergence), you can always reduce the frequency of output. There’s a setting for this in step definition window.
