Setup rotational symmetric calculation

Hi together,

I’m quite new to this forum but I use PPM for a year now. I wanted to try a 2D analysis to reduce the computational effort of a hyperalstic simulation of a rubber sealing onto a aluminium cup (both rotational symmetric). As discribed in this tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3q42cs9so8) I imported a face in the x-y plane and wanted to assign a section. But what confuses me, is the fact that I am able to define a thickness. This should not be possible. Is there something wrong with my 2D CAD File (exported .stp File from Siemens NX).

I hope s.o. can help me.

Many thanks in advance.

This is normal. The thickness will just be ignored by the solver. Sometimes it’s needed when you have a mixed axisymmetric model with plane stress elements though (that’s why you can specify it).

Ah, thank you very much for answering my question.

So do I have to set the thickness value to “0” to be ignored in the simulation?

No, PrePoMax will only accept values larger than zero. I would just leave it as the default unit thickness. CalculiX will ignore it anyway.
