Parametric study and other questions

Hello,
I just watched some very interesting youtube lectures by @FEAnalyst and was intending to switch to prepomax/calculix from ABAQUS. I would like to know a bit more about the capabilities of this software.

  1. How would one go about performing a parametric study? In ABAQUS, one can edit the jnl file to make it a python file and run the python script including loops.
  2. I only see linear elastic and plastic material definition options in the lectures. I am pretty sure calculix would have something as basic as hyperelasticity, but how to input those properties?
  3. Does calculix have the tools to model failure/delamination, such as cohesive zone modelling etc?
  4. Does one need to download calculix separately from prepomax?

Thanks in advance

There’s no built-in functionality for that yet but you could use Optimax which can work on CalculiX input files: https://prepomax.fs.um.si/optimax/

Yes, more advanced material models (like hyperelasticity) are available in CalculiX and can be added using the Keyword Editor like I did here with creep: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXrQBQH7Ecw

No, CalculiX doesn’t have such features. Only a simple fatigue crack propagation procedure.

No, the CalculiX binary is provided in the PrePoMax package (Solver folder).
