Monitor output for explicit dynamic analysis

Hi

I just managed to run my first dynamic explicit/explicit analysis in PPM v1.4.0 and i noticed that the status and convergence tabs in the Monitor window are empty. If I change the analysis to implicit/implicit it works normally. This is probably not intended so I’m reporting it here.

It’s not a PrePoMax bug so I moved this to general questions. That’s how CalculiX behaves. I even asked Guido (developer of CalculiX) about this recently and here’s what he replied:

The problem of creating intermediate output in the *.sta-file for explicit dynamic calculations is that it slows down execution and does not really contribute anything useful, since no iterations are performed (in an explicit dynamic calculation exactly one iteration per increment is done).

Thanks for the explanation although I think the Status tab would be useful to see the increment size and total analysis time more clearly. But I guess that should be discussed on the Caluclix forum.

Definitely. Especially since those analyses can take quite a lot of time and it would be good to see their progress. Abaqus provides such output in the status file and Job Monitor for explicit analyses:

In the case of those analyses, you can easily approximate how long it will take to complete them.

But, as you said, we would have to ask the CalculiX dev to add such a functionality (maybe as optional setting).

As far as I remember, in the explicit step, the output of current time and energy is printed into the command prompt, that is the Monitor window. The problem is that there is a lot of data, and it is not structured as a grid. Maybe I could reformat it somehow?
