Collision in Sheet Metal Bending Simulation

Hello everyone,

I’m trying to simulate a bending process in a sheet metal part using PrepoMax. The simulation works fine at the start and the end of the process, but I’m noticing collisions in the middle of the bending.

Thanks in advance for your help!

What is the deformation scale factor in postprocessing here ? How are contact pairs defined ?

true scale. sorry I am a new here and not able to upload the file. :upside_down_face:

the last result looks good

Now you should be able to upload files.

But first of all, you should define contact pairs only on the surfaces that will touch during the simulation. So only the bottom of the punch, top and bottom of the plate and top of the die.

Make sure that master is on the stiffer part and has coarser mesh. Btw. you may have to refine the mesh, especially around the corners. It’s often necessary to specify non-default contact stiffness too.

thank you for your replay. could you please try it out. I didn’t get it right. https://drive.google.com/file/d/15WOd5vLWVhEBr4wW_qhpIsPKkqvmQavm/view?usp=drive_link

You have to set access to “Anyone with the link” before copying and sharing the link here.

ah! sorry. I have change it.

If you animate the result using the default method, you only see the interpolated result. You should use animation by time increments.

you are totally right! thank you very much

Yeah, apart from the aforementioned suggestions regarding meshing, it looks good. There’s no interference in contact when the deformation scale factor is set to 1 (true scale deformation).

You should add plasticity though.
