This is an interesting topic, but I probably won’t be able to cover it anytime soon (more about this in pm). If you prepare some geometry (the article doesn’t provide the dimensions), I can help you set it up in PrePoMax. Just keep in mind that it’s often difficult to reproduce research paper results (because they use different solvers and usually provide very few details regarding the setup, particularly in this case) and that CalculiX has some significant limitations related mostly to 2D elements and nonlinearities: Known CalculiX limitations
The authors of this paper used a dynamic explicit step, which is highly limited and underdeveloped in CalculiX. You could try a static step instead or use OpenRadioss.
