Question on BDS

Hello team, I’m still learning PrePoMax but i’m failing to understand how to use the boundary displacement step (BDS). Can someone kindly explain to me how to use the step. Thank you.

It was applied in this paper, ( (13) (PDF) A Computational Model for Analysing the Wear Behaviour of Polymer Gears )

Have you seen the YouTube tutorial about those analyses in PrePoMax ? It can be a good starting point.

Yes I have the video. I have gone through it a number of time, but in this video the Boundary Displacement Step was not there.

There were some changes in the Wear procedure. The Boundary Displacement Step (BDS) must be added after the step in which one cycle of the wear analysis is created. The step is used only to compute the deformation of the mesh by the wear depth. The wear depth is used as a load in terms of displacement boundary condition that loads the mesh with displacements.

To control the mesh deformation, additional boundary conditions must be added by the user. The required boundary condition is the one that will prevent the rigid body motion. Additional boundary conditions can be added. For instance, if you have a symmetry model, you would want the mesh to be deformed by considering the symmetry plane, so you must add symmetry boundary conditions to the BDS.

I have a fixed sample model but cannot access it at this time.

I would appreciate if you share the sample, once you have access to it. Thank you for the insightful description above

It took some time, but now I have uploaded the wear model with the Boundary Displacement Step (BDS) to Matej Borovinšek / PrePoMax Models · GitLab

The BDS step applies the wear displacements as displacement loads to deform the mesh. To deform the mesh, all mesh parts must be supported to prevent rigid body motion. Additional supports can be added to enforce symmetry boundary conditions or others.

Thank you for the assistance. I appreciate.
