For modal analysis I need to display the magnitude (absolute value) of the displacements in the global directions – e.g., magnitude of U1, magnitude of U2, magnitude of U3. For my analyses, this is beneficial (particularly for U3) to be able to display the regions of 0 amplitude (the nodes).
Here is an example from Mecway where the top and bottom faces of this cylinder are moving in opposite directions. The actual Z (U3) displacements are –
However, by displaying the displacement magnitude, the dark blue node at the center of the cylinder can be readily seen.
