Combine a thermal study with mechanical

Hello,

Is it possible to calculate a thermal study—heat-exchanger heat distribution at the girth flange between the tube and shell sides with different temperatures? This is a transient process. I have the pressure and temperature values for the shell and tube sides.

Can temperature be imported as “Load” (like in Ansys) to conduct a thermo-mechanical study?

In particular, I’d like to validate some highly critical bolted connections with PPM - how a pre-tension in the bolts and the gasket behaves at different temperatures (starting and shut-down steps)

Is it possible to combine them together and analyze such a complex task?

Any comments and suggestions are much appreciated

Sure, transient thermal analyses are supported. You can apply temperature boundary conditions, heat flux loads (including convection and radiation) and use thermal contact (or just tie constraint to allow heat flow without any resistance). Make sure to define the initial temperature too.

Yes, there are so-called defined (temperature) fields for that but you may also select the coupled temperature-displacement step and have thermal and mechanical DOFs in one analysis.
