Why we can’t use the lastest solver Calculix 2.23?
You can. Just copy the 2.23 Windows executable and dlls into ./Solver
Here is an installation guide, if the executable is not available
The main issue is that CalculiX 2.23 doesn’t allow using rigid body constraints with 2D elements even in nonlinear analyses. The next version shouldn’t have this limitation anymore.
When will the next version be released?
Hard to say, but they usually release new CalculiX version in Q3 or Q4. I think that it was usually in August, but 2.23 was released at the end of October last year.
If you want to know more, ask on the CalculiX forum. The dev team is active there.
Thank you very much!
Here are the release dates of all the CalculiX versions whose manuals are still available on Guido’s website:
| ccx version | Day | Month | Year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.23 | 19 | October | 2025 |
| 2.22 | 5 | August | 2024 |
| 2.21 | 29 | July | 2023 |
| 2.20 | 31 | July | 2022 |
| 2.19 | 17 | December | 2021 |
| 2.18 | 15 | September | 2021 |
| 2.17 | 23 | July | 2020 |
| 2.16 | 24 | November | 2019 |
| 2.15 | 15 | December | 2018 |
| 2.14 | 28 | April | 2018 |
| 2.13 | 8 | October | 2017 |
| 2.12 | 2 | April | 2017 |
| 2.11 | 31 | July | 2016 |
| 2.10 | 8 | March | 2016 |
| 2.9 | 19 | November | 2015 |
As you can see, there used to be 2 releases a year, but now it’s just one, usually released in August or later.
As for the release notes, here’s what we can expect in 2.24 based on Guido’s log:
- support for sets on
*PRE-TENSION SECTIONand*COUPLINGcards - new
REPAIR ONLYparameter for the*REFINE MESHcard *DAMAGE INITIATIONas a standard*MATERIALcard option- support for interface loading
- calculation of self-inductance and electromagnetic energy
- material ramping at divergence
- parallel CFD calculations switched from
pthreadto OpenMP - output of accelerations to
.datand.frdfile results .frdbinary output format update to support double precision data storage
IMO acceleration output is the biggest new feature. But I mostly hope for more bug fixes.
