PrePoMax in the RR3 Wind-Turbine Tower Benchmark (Sadowski Round Robin 2024–2025) – Results & Observations

You would need separate shell parts, not merged/compounded:

Before exporting any geometry involving shells make sure your element output is set to 2D.

FEAnlyst has a Youtube video about NLBA and it applies that procedure.

omg, thanks that fixes the problem.

it seems the problem is in edge faces to stay plane as Abaqus does, i’m not sure is possible to be default in CalculiX but some proposed can be good to ask also.

ok but then how can you merge the mesh (Shell and Solid) without using Tie constraint? like Anys did in his model?

Probably with Model → Node → Merge Coincident Nodes. Something you couldn’t do in Abaqus, but apparently you can do it with CalculiX because its shells become solids anyway.

Dr. Sadowski send me a sheet which shows the expected “reaction forces RF and moments RM” but somehow my RF are wrong ? and RM seems not to have been implemented?

LC1 my Analysis in PrePoMax
RF1 = -1.76 E+6
RF2 = 4 E+6
RF3 = 0
RM1,RM2, RM3 not available

LC1 Solution Sadowski
RF1 = -1.76 E+6
RF2 = 4.66 E+6
RF3 = -9.11 E-5

RM1 = -2.64 E+0
RM2 = 6.9 E-1
RM3 = 9.61 E+10

Sounds like you are not considering the self weight in your analisys.

Self Weight (7850 Kg/m3) = 67,794 Kg (Additional 0.66 MN)

RF2 = 4.0MN + 0.66 MN =4.66 MN

RM1,RM2, RM3 . I assume you refer to the overall moment on the slab and Moments in the most basic set up (Linear Static).

Check the section print card. ( SOF SOM ).

The new version of PrePoMax 2.4.1 contains added support for section output in history outputs

It can be a good oportunity to try it.

EDITED: Section print in history Outputs works great:

LC1 Expected Solution
RF1 = -1.76 E+6 N
RF2 = 4.66 E+6 N
RF3 = 0 N

RM1 = 0 Nmm
RM2 = 0 Nmm
RM3 = =(33000000+1760000*36)*1000=9.634 E+10 Nmm

this doesnt seem to work for me:

I selected the nodes as shown in the picture, and I also got the message that the nodes are merged, but the results show that it is not merged (at least like I imagine it should work)

Thanks I indeed forgot to include the Gavity Load :smiley:
