Contact doesn't open in reverse direction

Hello,

I’m running a model of a stamping/crimping process, involving plastic deformation. Here is a sketch of the model (I can’t share the pmx):

This is a 2D axissymetric model, with linear quads elements and Node-to-Surface contacts (I couldn’t get proper results with Surface-to-Surface).

The matrix is fixed. The upper edge of the stamp has an imposed displacement driven by an amplitude. The stamp first goes down until the little “arm” of the workpiece is sufficiently deformed and then up again. The problem (which is pretty weird, although it doesn’t really affect the results) is that when the stamp goes up, the workpiece comes back up with it, even after the elastic deformation of the workpiece has been recovered, and the workpiece and the stamp stay together as if the contact was sticky or as if the workpiece had an inertia and sprung back up (the step is static).

I’ve first ran the model without the stamp and was able to get proper results. I then added the stamp in order to get a better idea of the stresses between the stamp and the workpiece.

I sent you a private message regarding this.

This type of contact might be problematic and requires careful master-slave surface assignment. It may show some spurious behavior such as snagging, excessive penetrations and inaccurate contact pressure results.

Are you using finite sliding ? Is adjustment enabled ? What are the interaction properties (including friction) ? Isn’t it set to Tied by any chance ?
